  1. Why change copyright.com?
You rely on Copyright Clearance Center (CCC) to simplify the complex world of copyright. It is a responsibility we take seriously. We listened to your feedback and we are proud to offer you a better, easier-to-use copyright.com with a new look, a more efficient design, a streamlined permission search and order process and more copyright resources.

  2. What has changed in the new copyright.com?
The biggest changes are in the Search and Order process. With the new copyright.com, finding a publication and getting permission to reuse copyrighted material is easier than ever.

We've also improved site navigation, making it easier to find the information you are looking for, learn about CCC's products and services, and make informed decisions about the use of copyrighted materials

    Specific New Features and Enhancements:

    • REDESIGNED – Home Page and Improved Navigation make it easy to get to the information and services you want, with minimal searching and clicking. A new navigation bar with drop down menus helps you get directly to the detailed information you need and restyled landing pages provide more information about CCC's products and services.

    • NEW – Copyright Central—the place to go for all things copyright. Learn about copyright, get the latest news, connect to copyright blogs and access our library of white papers, articles and newsletters.

    • NEW – Direct Search at the top of every page. Find a publication and quickly determine reuse pricing and availability without logging in. You can also log in, manage your account and view your shopping cart from any page.

    • NEW – Search and Order Process. Everyone—from first time visitors to experienced users—will find it easier to purchase permission or confirm coverage under an annual license with this new, streamlined process.

    • IMPROVED – Order History and Management. Review orders, check on Special Orders and view, search and sort orders in one convenient location.

  3. What effect will the new Search and Order Process have on the way I place and process orders?
The new search-and-order process makes it easier for you to find and purchase the permission you need.

    Enhancements include:

    1. Simplified Search. Simply enter a standard number or a publication title and let us do the work. Our improved search results make it easier for you to quickly find the publication that you need permission to use.

    2. Permission Summary Pages. Once you've identified the publication you wish to use, you will see all of the available permission types on a single screen. You will know at a glance if you can photocopy it, e-mail it to someone else, use it in a coursepack, post it to the Internet, etc.

    3. Shopping Cart and Check-out. A new check-out process provides a familiar three-step procedure for you to purchase permission to reuse multiple publications at the same time, select your payment method—including credit cards, review your order and print/review your order confirmation. And the Shopping Cart is persistent, so you can walk away and your order will be waiting when you are ready to continue.

    4. "Rollover" Help. Quickly gets you through any questions along the way.

  4. I use copyright.com frequently to place orders online. How can I get started quickly with the new copyright.com?
The new copyright.com features many of the conveniences frequent users are accustomed to—and more. You can still log in and manage your account from the upper right corner of any page. With the new copyright.com you can also access your shopping cart and initiate a search from any page on the site. In addition, the advanced search features found under "more search options" allow frequent users to identify their specific usage criteria and get permission right away. The advanced search page is easily bookmarked and settings are retained for future visits.

  5. Will I see any changes to my invoice?
Very few. Minor wording changes will be made to ensure that the permission types described on your invoice match the permission types described on copyright.com.

  6. Copyright.com now accepts credit cards. Is the process for paying with a credit card the same as being invoiced?
Yes, with one exception. Credit card orders are billed immediately and no adjustments can be made to an order once it is billed. If you require the flexibility to change an order after it is placed—for example, academic institutions that need to change the number of students in a course after the add-drop period—we suggest the invoice payment option. It will allow you to edit your order up until the point your invoice is generated.

  7. Once I've placed an order, will I still receive an e-mail confirmation?
Yes, but it will no longer include a PDF copy of your order detail. Instead, it will contain a direct link to your online order detail where you can review and print the order detail, as well as a copy of your license.

  8. How do I make changes to my order after I check-out?
Once you have placed an order, use the Order History function to:

    • Find an order or an item within an order.

    • Filter and view only open or closed orders.

    • Make changes or updates to your order (prior to being invoiced)—for example, update the number of copies or number of students in a course.

    • Look-up old orders, such as coursepack orders, and copy it to create a new order for another semester.

    • Track the status of a Special Order.

  9. Will my bookmarks in the "old" copyright.com work in the new copyright.com?
In most cases you will be redirected to the new page automatically. You will see a visual notification of the redirection along with a prompt to reset your bookmark.

In a few instances your bookmarked pages may have been eliminated and you will be directed to an informational page that will help guide you to the information you need.

  10. My company holds an annual license from CCC. How will the new copyright.com affect me?
With the new copyright.com, verifying coverage under your annual license is just one click away. Simply enter your search terms and see all available rights for that title on a single page. The page is specifically designed for our annual license holders and it is easily bookmarked. If you need to purchase permission to use content outside your organization, the new shopping cart and check-out process make it easy to do so.

  11. I am a copyright holder with content registered with CCC. How will the new copyright.com affect me?
The new Permission Summary page displays all the rights available for any title registered with CCC, allowing you to review your enrollment in our various licensing programs at a glance. You can now link directly to the Permission Summary page for each title you have registered with CCC, enabling you to provide direct access to the reuse rights and purchasing process for your content, right from your Web site. For more information about linking to the Permissions Summary page, please contact your Rightsholder Relations Representative or e-mail us at
    rightsholders@copyright.com.

In addition, as part of our new streamlined purchase process, we consolidated the multiple page range fields into a single field. From now on, when we send you a Special Order permission request you will receive only a single request, even when multiple page ranges for a single title are requested, making it easier for you to process the request.

  12. My company has integrated its application with Copyright Clearance Center's rights database via Permissions Direct or Permissions Gateway. Will the re-designed copyright.com affect my implementation?
Partners utilizing Permissions Gateway will not be affected in any way, since they do not access our catalog through copyright.com.

Partners using Permissions Direct (our open URL linking service) will experience copyright.com's new search-and-order process along with the new site design.

Integration partners should note that the integration demonstration will also be updated to reflect the new Web site.

  13. What browsers does the new copyright.com support?
Browser support has been expanded to include (on both Windows and Macintosh platforms—as supported within the OS):

    • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher

    • FireFox 1.0 or higher

    • NEW—Safari 2.0 or higher

Note: Users will be expected to have JavaScript and cookies enabled.
